For more than 20 years and with damn little to show for it, these literate Long Islanders have churned out a coagulated, unsimple, songful mid-tempo recalling certain wise-guy Midwestern bands (Tin Huey, B.P.A., MX-80) from some bygone era when punk and prog hadn’t yet split, because all the kids still owned Beefheart and Zappa and Hampton Grease Band records. Trendy tykes enthralled with Dismemberment Plan’s jazz-crookedness owe them an investigation. (Eddy)
